Hi All, I am one of the FEW (Female Electrical Workers) out of Oregon. I am 8 years old and am also an instructor with the apprenticeship here.
Just wanted to say Hi and that I am always jazzed to see other women on the construction jobs I hit. We started a weekly get together with other female electricians, plumbers, fitters, carpenters, sheetmetal workers and iron workers at the last job I was at in Springfield, Oregon. We needed that time, if nothing else, just to vent to each other. Some times we talked of outside interests to take our mind off of the job and it's frustrations.
We got to stick together, in spirit if not in reality.
Good luck, keep up the good work.

Sun, October 28, 2007 - 8:26 PMNo, Arcadia, you are right, but I am 8 years old as an electrician. I'm 46, with a Birthday in January. (I wish I could go backwards, maybe not that far though.)
Are you in the construction trades? I'd love to hear from you and your experiences.
Take care,

Re: The FEW
Sun, November 4, 2007 - 7:16 PMWell, currently I'm between jobs. As a union member, I could work for any number of contractors in a year. Things will be picking up, but at present are slow. I too love green building, my side of that is the energy efficient appliances, solar power and passive solar design. Oregon is wide open in in their thinking in that department and many different materials have been experimented with to find better ways. BUT it is hard to find contractors here that want to venture into those areas, so little experience is given to the everyday worker because of it. So I find my chances of working with solar systems and green/passive solar designs are very limited. A sister electrician that graduated with me wants to start her own solar business in the next year or two, and wants me and another sister to join her. She teased that she'd call the business the "Lady Lectricians".
What kind of work, residential or commercial, do you do? Your experiences? -

wow, i thought Oregon was on the cutting edge of all that is green in building! I do strictly residential work - specifically remodeling.
